Great place for winter boondocking, 25 miles from Las Vegas or Boulder City, NV. If you enjoy the desert and the beautiful peaceful scenery then this is a perfect choice.

Close by is Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, and of course Lake Mead! Fishing, hiking, canoeing, and bicycling are just some of the activities you can do.

Canville Bay Campground also has a marina, that you can utilize. The campground is dry, but does have potable water and a dump! It is located up the road past the turn-off for Government Wash. You will see signs for Canville Bay Campground.

When you’re done with those activities you have Las Vegas to explore and enjoy shows, food, and sports entertainment! Talk about not running out of things to do.

You can stay here for 14 days, which is standard for National Parks. But you have Valley of Fire to the north, and Red Rock to the west for other options.

Remember that the Desert can be very cold and windy in the winter so you will have to plan accordingly and be prepared!

The weekends will be busy with the locals, but once you have your spot you should be okay. The only other caution would be to scout out your parking places, as you may need 4-wheel drive and high clearance for some places. Stay out of the gullies for flash floods which can easily happen when it rains in the desert, but if you are parked on the knolls you will be fine. For the most part, the ground is solid on the knolls. You do have access to the lake for fishing, I would suggest that you only drive down the road in a car or truck though. Not a motorhome!

You will have a fabulous view no matter where you find to camp!!

Directions

From Las Vegas, you have two choices:

North Las Vegas Hwy 147, which is East Lake Mead Blvd., or Hwy 564, which is North Shore Road from Henderson.

You will be charged an entrance National Park Fee from either route. But the camping is free!!!
