Keeping food fresh, Cleaning hacks, and some substitutions
We all know that when you’re on the road, popping into a store isn’t always easy—or even possible. Plus, no matter what kind of rig you’re rolling in, storage space is always tight.
So, I wanted to share a few helpful hints to make your life a bit easier out there. Hope they come in handy!

Useful Information:
- Keep brown sugar in a Mason jar with a piece of bread to keep it soft
- Keep Bakery bread in a paper bag, not a plastic one, no mold
- When storing potatoes, of course, a cool dark place, but add a cut apple, and they won’t sprout so fast.
- Butter can sit on the counter, but store the packages in the refrigerator
- Quick way to soften avocados, wrap in foil, place in bowl, pour boiling water over, let set for 10 mins., should be soft. Maybe not ripe? but you can use them.
- Baking soda for kitchen fires, keep it handy!
- Vinegar solutions!
- Get rid of ants; the smell repels them, and they don’t return.
- Cleanse a toothbrush; Combine 1/2 cup water, 2 tablespoons vinegar, and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in a mixing bowl for 30 minutes;
- Make buttermilk: Simply dissolve one tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of milk and wait a few minutes for the milk to curdle slightly. Then, whisk the mixture together, and it’s ready to use as a buttermilk substitute!
- Make your eyewear spotless, mix one part water and three parts distilled white vinegar into a spray bottle, and wipe with a clean cloth.
- Clean a wooden chopping board, stir four parts of water with one part white vinegar to make a chemical-free cleaning solution. After that, soak your cutting board for a few minutes in the solution. Rinse and pat dry. To avoid warping, do not soak it longer.
- Make your windows sparkling, mix two cups of water, 1/4 cup white vinegar, and 1/2 teaspoon dishwashing detergent in a mixing bowl. Then apply it with a spray bottle on the surface. Wipe the mixture on your windows to observe how clear they become!
- Fruit and vegetable wash, fill your spray bottle halfway with one cup of vinegar and four cups of water, then add a tablespoon of lemon juice. Place your fruits or vegetables in a strainer and spray them. Your produce is now fit to eat! Simple as that!
- Thoroughly clean the oven, make a paste, and set it aside overnight using baking soda and water. Wipe away the baking soda paste with a cleaning cloth that’s soaked in warm water—mix water and vinegar in a bottle. Then, clean the oven using this mixture.
